Orion "Doug" Layman's Obituary
Orion Douglas "Doug" Layman, a loving husband, stepfather, and patriotic man, passed away on January 2, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on April 4, 1946, to the late Orion Layman Sr. and Ruby Jean Layman nee Griggs. He deeply loved his late sisters Peggy and Dotty.
Doug was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Maria Dagro, a dedicated stepfather to James Dagro (Shannon Vendemmia), Amy Dagro (Debjoy Mallick) and stepgrandfather to Ariane Dagro. His love for his family was unwavering, and he always put their happiness and well-being above everything else.
Having served in the United States Air Force, Doug had a deep passion and respect for his country. His service to the nation was something he was immensely proud of. Respected by his comrades, he was known for his unwavering dedication, commitment and work ethic.
Doug was an incredibly knowledgeable man. He was an invaluable employee of Fairchild Aircraft where he worked as a Material Manager until his first retirement. Doug became a bus driver for Frederick County Public schools and enjoyed transporting the students in his charge until his second retirement.
Throughout his life, one of Doug's greatest passions was cars, particularly his prized Corvettes and Mustangs. He could often be found working on them or taking them for drives, reveling in the thrill of their power and beauty. His love for cars was contagious, and he loved sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
Described by those who knew him as sweet and kind, Doug had a warm and gentle nature. He had an innate ability to make people laugh and feel welcomed with his genuine smile and caring demeanor. He had a way of brightening people's days and leaving a lasting impression.
Visitation for Doug will be held on January 11, 2024, from 11 am to 12 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home and Crematory Inc, located at 9501 B Catoctin Mtn Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will follow at 12 pm. Interment will take place following services at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Doug will be dearly missed by his wife, stepchildren, extended family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched with his gentle spirit, kind heart and loving humor. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
