In Loving Memory of Norman Hall Sexton Sr.
September 12, 1939 - June 14, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norman Hall Sexton Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Norman passed away on June 14, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories. He was born on September 12, 1939, in Mulberry Gap, TN, and later resided in Thurmont, MD. He was the son of the late Fred W. and Viola M. (Hopkins) Sexton.
Norman was a man of deep commitment and devotion, especially to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara (Cordell) Sexton, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering support. Norman and Barbara's marriage was a testament to the enduring power of love and their bond served as an inspiration to all who knew them.
Norman is also survived by his four sons: Terry and his wife Melissa of Thurmont, MD, James and his wife Shelly of Hedgesville, WV, Robert and his wife Denise of Rocky Ridge, MD, and Norman Jr. of Thurmont, MD. His thirteen grandchildren: Crystal Grimm and her husband Ronnie, Shawna Sexton, Drew Sexton and his wife Brittany, Chaz Sexton and his wife Jordan, Alexis Sexton, Nikki Sexton, Brittany Cook and her husband Ryan, Alecia Sexton, Ashlie Hitchcock and her husband Justin, Kayla Sexton, Cory Sexton, Hope Sexton, and Olivia Sexton, as well as 10 great-grandchildren, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Norman is preceded in death by his brothers, John and Kenneth Sexton, and sisters, Freda Shifflett and Virginia Thompson.
Norman was raised with strong values and a sense of responsibility that he carried with him throughout his life. Norman's kindness, integrity, and work ethic were evident in everything he did. In his early career, he was the night shift supervisor at Thermalink in Laurel, MD for sixteen years. He was also the owner/operator of Sexton Contractors, custom home builders, for 40+ years and his passion and love of building was evident in each house he built. In his spare time, you would often find Norman out in the fields on his Rocky Ridge farm riding his favorite John Deere tractor, watching an old western movie, or taking long drives through the countryside with his wife and their beloved dog Foxy.
His family was the center of his universe, and he took immense joy in spending time with each and every one of them. Norman’s gentle presence, warm smile, and playful spirit will forever be etched in their hearts. Norman Hall Sexton Sr. will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love and devotion will live on through his family, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, let us find solace in knowing that he has found eternal peace.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 10 am to 12 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory Inc, 9501 B Catoctin Mtn Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701. A burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens where family and friends will gather to celebrate Norman's life and share their memories.
