Mr. Nicholas Raymond Miers, 76, of Jefferson died Friday, January 27, 2017 at his home. He was married to the late Jane R. Angell Miers for nearly 50 years. Nicholas was born on December 25, 1940 in Ada, Oklahoma to the late Lester C. and Hazel A. Miers. He is survived by six of his children, three siblings, 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Jane and their son, Kevin A. Miers. Nicholas was a former Marine who served his country from 1963-1967. He was awarded medals for Good Conduct, National Defense Service and received sharp shooting badges for both rifle and pistol. After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Nicholas moved to Maryland to pursue the hand of his one true love in marriage. Nick and Jane were married in October of 1967 in Thurmont, MD. Shortly thereafter, Nick began a career with the United States Postal Service in Rockville, MD which spanned over 40 years. He was known by his colleagues for his hard work and received several awards for his service, commitment and flawless safety record. Upon retirement, Nick enjoyed his years by traveling, gardening and spending time with family. He had a love for music, history, politics and photography. Nicholas will be remembered for his ever-present smile, warm hugs, strength, determination and devotion. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 3. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the cancer research charity of one's choice.
