Mr. Nelson Cabrera's Obituary
With a sad heart, the family of Nelson Cabrera shares the news of his passing in Frederick,
Maryland on July 7, 2024. Born September 23, 1932, he led a long and simple life striving to
always put his family first, loving others deeply, and making people laugh.
He is affectionately known by most as “Papi” or “Pop” a name he earned when he became a
grandparent some 30 years ago, and found great joy in being. To know our Pop, was to be
loved by him. He saw the good in people and was a kind and generous man who wanted for
little, yet gave so much.
His final week was spent surrounded by those he loved most, his two children, Erica Gillis and
Erik Cabrera, his grandchildren, sweet messages and pictures of his three great grandchildren,
and many other family members. We know he cherished every moment.
Mr. Cabrera will be remembered most for his kind heart, loving nature, and endless devotion to
his predeceased wife, Margaret Cabrera. After nearly 50 years apart, they will rest peacefully
together where they built their lives in Miami, Florida.
The family has decided to hold private services to honor and celebrate his life. For those who
want to do something in his memory, the family asks that you cook a meal for your family, look
at old pictures or work on a puzzle, some of his favorite things to do. His legacy will be survived
by the memories he told us and the moments he was a part of
