Nathan Lavere Haines Sr., age 89, of Walkersville, died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at his home after a brief illness. Born July 10, 1927 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late N. McClellan Haines and Rhona Barnhart Haines. Twice married, his first wife was the late Gloria Mancha Haines who died in 1974 and his second wife was Darlene Haugh Haines who died May 25, 2017. Mr. Haines served with the U.S. Army in Panama. In his working career, he was employed as a truck mechanic, a service station owner, with Fedders Corp. and as a dump truck owner/driver. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, gardening, playing pool & woodworking. He was a member of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are 2 daughters, Sharon Halac and husband Richard of Carlisle, PA and Shirley Greene and husband Curtis of Rocky Ridge; a son, Nathan Haines Jr. of Hagerstown; 8 grandchildren, Stefanie, Kathy, Hilary, Tina, Gail, Glenn, Lindsey and Bradley; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Eva and a brother, Jack. He was predeceased by a son, Richard G. Haines in 2001, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. A funeral service will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11 with Pastor Ben Hays, of Life and Liberty Baptist Church, Walkersville, officiating. Military interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 10.
