Miriam S. Cook's Obituary
Miriam S. Cook, 97, of Frederick, Maryland, passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on December 3, 2025. Born in Brentwood, California, to Arcenio Colon and Olive Jefferies, Miriam was fondly known as “Duck” by her late husband, Eddie, who knew she was the girl for him from the very first moment he saw her. Their love story became the foundation of a life defined by devotion, gentleness, and unwavering care.
Miriam was loving, kind, and endlessly giving. Born with a childlike spirit that she carried throughout her life, she believed wholeheartedly in the good in people. As a young girl, she found joy in simple pleasures—zipping along on her scooter, riding bikes, roller skating, jumping double Dutch, and mastering games of jacks with ease.
As she grew, her heart expanded to embrace not only her own family, but anyone who needed mothering. She was, at times, a mom to many—offering comfort, support, and kindness to relatives and neighbors alike.
Miriam found tremendous joy in nurturing others. She loved to cook and bake, filling her home with warmth, irresistible aromas, and treats eagerly awaited by the neighborhood kids. Her creativity bloomed in her garden and through her love of bird watching, flower arranging, coloring, and decorating for the holidays—each season made brighter by her touch. She enjoyed games of all kinds and delighted in the laughter and togetherness they inspired.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Cheryl Pearce (Bill) and Cindi Cook, who will forever carry her love in their hearts. Miriam was the cherished grandmother of five, great-grandmother of six, and great-great-grandmother of one. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored her, as well as two beloved sisters-in-law, Ruby and Jane.
Miriam’s legacy is one of sweetness, compassion, and gentle strength. She lived with a generosity of spirit that made everyone feel welcome and loved. Though she will be deeply missed, her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
May she rest peacefully in the embrace of our Lord, reunited with her beloved Eddie, and forever surrounded by the love she so freely gave.
Please join us in celebrating her life at a Memorial Service on December 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main Street, Walkersville, Maryland 21793. A Repass will follow the service in Georgetown Hall, located inside the church.
