Obituary
Dr. Milton Gordon, formerly of Frederick, passed away November 20, 2017 at age 88 in Lansdale, PA. He was born May 28, 1929 in New York, New York to Jack and Dora Gordon. Dr. Gordon earned his B.S. degree in bacteriology from UCLA and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in microbiology from George Washington University. He was a microbiologist at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD from 1950-1970. He subsequently worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, where he was the head of a study section that reviewed scientific grants from universities and research institutions, from 1970 until his retirement in 1986.Dr. Gordon was an active volunteer in his community. He was a past president of Beth Sholom Congregation and a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Monocacy Valley Montessori Public Charter School. He also served as a member of the Annual Support Committee of the Frederick YMCA and a member of the Annual Support Committee for the 1902 Club for Frederick Memorial Hospital. Dr. Gordon was an emeritus member of the American Society for Microbiology and a member of Sigma Xi Scientific Society.He is survived by his beloved wife Joyce of 65 years, son Marc (Gayle) Gordon of Charlotte, NC, son Bruce (Ellen) Gordon of Stamford, CT, daughter Jackie (John) Haynes of Lansdale, PA, and grandchildren Lee, Kerris, Dana and Daniel. He also leaves behind a sister, Sheila (Eugene) Bialek, of Los Angeles, CA. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 24 at 10 AM at Beth Sholom Congregation, 1011 Market Street, Frederick, MD, with burial at Resthaven Memorial Gardens immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to Beth Sholom Congregation, Frederick, MD or the charity of one's choice.
