Mrs. Mildred Catherine Whipp, 96, of Thurmont, went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2018. She was the wife of the late Arthur Keefer Whipp, who preceded her in death on September 3, 1994; they were married 54 years. Born December 4, 1921, she was the oldest daughter of the late Roy and Rennie Rippeon. She was preceded in death by her siblings Roy E. Rippeon, Jr., Paul E. Rippeon, Pauline Grossnickle, Bernard F. Rippeon, Howard E. Rippeon, and Mehrle F. Rippeon. As a teenager she was active in the Salvation Army. In later years, she was employed at Sagner's Sewing Factory until it closed. Mildred was also very active in her church and community. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran, Utica, and later, St. John's Lutheran, Creagerstown, where she was an active member of the Faithful Workers, assisting in the many dinners held by the church, helping to prepare the meals, as well as singing in the church choir. She was also active in the Thurmont Senior Center, singing with the Catoctin Canaries for 27 years, who performed for many years, even being invited to the White House for "A White House Christmas" in 1991. They also performed at the U.S. Senate and locally at many nursing homes for the residents, and other local events in the community. Mildred also volunteered at the Thurmont Senior Center helping to serve lunches as well as being a member of the local Red Hats organization. She was an avid homemaker, as well as working outside the home in her younger years, sewing for her family and making and decorating many birthday cakes, wedding cakes and other delicious meals and homemade desserts made from scratch, which she was more than willing to do. Mildred is survived by her children, Geneva Coren of Creagerstown, Edward Whipp (Pam Droneburg) of Thurmont, Ilene Weeks (Dennis) of Union Bridge; nine grandchildren, Buddy Summers, Larry Coren, Sheri Whipp Beall, Julie Stitely Stambaugh, Jeff Allder, Jason Allder, Danny Whipp, Dwayne Whipp, Shannon Whipp House; 22 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Rippy of Inverness, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 8619 Black's Mill Rd., Creagerstown, from 6 - 9 PM on Thursday, June 14, 2018. The funeral service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on Friday, June 15th at 11:00 AM with viewing for the family one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow in the Parish Hall. Pallbearers are Floyd "Buddy" Summers, Larry Coren, Danny Whipp, Joshua Whipp, Jason Allder and Mason Scott. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 8619 Black's Mill Rd., Thurmont, MD 21788. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
