Obituary
Melvin E. Schildt, 69, better known as "Mad Dog" of Yellow Springs, passed away at home, on Saturday, March 25th, with family by his side. He was the husband of Nancy R. Schildt. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage. Born Tuesday, January 6, 1948, in Walkersville, at home during a snowstorm, he was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth Haines. Melvin was employed by Eastalco ("The Plant") where he later retired after being a union member for 30 years. He worked on the "Pot Line" for many of his years and made many great friends. After retiring, Melvin worked for a brief period of time at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. After that he gained employment with the City of Frederick, for 5 years, where he worked at the city parking deck. Melvin found pleasure in the simple things in life. He enjoyed his beer, scratch-off lottery tickets, working at the plant, socializing with friends, and driving his 1967 Chevrolet, too fast. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter. You would find him at any of the local ponds opening day of trout season; coincidentally the same day he took his last breath. In the spring, Melvin loved hunting for morel mushrooms. He was a home body who enjoyed working around the house, spending time with family, and who always had the presence of a canine friend by his side. His favorite foods were Maryland crabs, his home cooked shrimp, deer bologna, a block of cheese, olives and peppers. Every year he found great pleasure growing his garden and producing his prize winning tomatoes to be shared with family and friends. -Those who remember Melvin will remember his tales of stories and laughter.- In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Tracy Schildt and Carrie Schildt, his granddaughter, Kayla Cucchiara, a sister, Darlene and husband Elwood Dowery, brothers, Kenny Schildt & wife Hilda, Donald Schildt & wife Peggy, Johnny Schildt & wife Mary Anne , Howard Schildt, Jr., and his loyal canine friend, Roxy. He will be remembered by many loving friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabelth Haines, and his brother, Carroll Schildt. Melvin recently accepted the Lord as his Savior. There will be no viewing or graveside services. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 1st at the former E.U.B. Church (now Providence Baptist Church) on 40 North Main Street, in Walkersville. Pastor Craig Bush will officiate. Contributions may be made in Melvin's name to a fund for Kayla L.
