Obituary
Mrs. Melva Jean Leishman, 81, of Frederick, passed away suddenly on September 15, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of John Leishman, her husband of 59 years. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Melva was the daughter of the late Neil and Jean Smith. She graduated from South Charleston High School in 1955 along with her future husband, and they moved to Frederick in 1968. Mrs. Leishman devoted her career to helping local children. She worked for over 30 years with Frederick County Public Schools in food service, and sold tickets to high school sporting events at Frederick High and Walkersville High Schools. She was also active for many years with the Frederick High School Boosters Club, and will also be remembered by many for her work over the years with the Ed Thomas Memorial Swimming Pool. In addition to her loving husband, Momma L / Gram is survived by three sons, Gary Leishman & wife Barbara, Jerry Leishman & wife Denia, and Terry Leishman & wife Nancy; seven grandchildren, Neil, Amanda, Andrew, Nadine, Nicole, Jessica, and Christina; a great-grandson, Kane Brown; and many friends. Visitation will be held from 6 - 9 PM on Wednesday, September 19th in the Resthaven Funeral Home, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy. (US Rt. 15 N), in Frederick, wher a funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 20th. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Leishman's name may be made to the Community Foundation of Frederick County, 312 E.
