Mary Frances Powell's Obituary
Mary Frances (West) Powell, “Fran,” of Frederick, MD, died in Frederick on May 9, 2026. Mary Frances, daughter of the late Isaac Rigdon and Olla Mae McLeod West, is survived by four daughters: Mary Lee Powell and her husband, Gerald Boyd, Jr., of Vienna, VA; Terri Powell; Pat Powell; and Rebecca Myles of Hedgesville, WV. Mary Frances also is survived by four grandchildren: Justin Baer and his wife, Megan Baer, of Boonesboro, MD; Rachel Baer of Pineville, WV; Shawn Powell and his wife, Nichole Powell, of Leland, NC; and Christopher Powell and his wife, Andrea Powell, of Halethorpe, MD; and two great-grandchildren. Marcy Murray Braga, of Josephine, PA, and Mary Jane Johnson, of Fairfax, VA, survive and are friends of many years.
Mary Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Frederick E. Powell, Sr.; her parents; a son, Frederick E. Powell, Jr. of Columbia, MO; a sister, Barbara Ann West of Augusta, GA; and brothers William Rigdon (Estelle Courson) West and Edgar Leroy West.
Mary Frances was a Benedictine Oblate associated with St. Vincent Archabbey of Latrobe, PA. Rather than flowers or other memorial contributions, Mary Frances has asked that donations be made to St. Vincent Archabbey, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe, PA 15650-2686, c/o Reverend Donald Raila, O.S.B.; and/or St. John Catholic Church, Frederick, MD; and/or The Salvation Army of Frederick, MD.
Catholic funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Entombment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (Route 15), Frederick, MD 21701.
