Mary Lee Haugen, 76, of Thurmont, MD, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016, at Buckingham's Choice Retirement Community, Adamstown, MD. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Haugen, who passed away in 2000. Born June 20, 1939, in Uniontown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Emerson Lee Gorman and Mary Pearl Kramer Gorman. Mary Lee is survived by her children, Steven Haugen and wife Mary of Gapland, and Lori Maze and husband Kevin of Monrovia; three grandchildren, Natalie Haugen of Gapland, and Christopher and Marissa Maze, both of Monrovia. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth G. Spencer and her family (including special devoted niece Susan Akehurst); sister-in law Marie Gorman and her family; and brother- in-law Allan Haugen and his family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, William J. Gorman and James L. Gorman. Mary Lee worked as a secretary for the Frederick County Board of Education and then became a full-time mother and homemaker. She later returned to work as a secretary at Catoctin High School. She retired from Frederick County Public Schools in 1999. She then worked part time for Dr. John W. Stroh in Thurmont for many years. Mary Lee enjoyed many fun-filled vacations with her family, including several cruises and regular summer holiday gatherings at their cabin in West Virginia. She also enjoyed traveling with special friends Carol, Jean, Dot, and Betty, going on bus trips and weekend adventures to the beach. She was an avid bridge player and loved playing board games and working jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Historical Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick on Saturday, June 4th , with a celebration of life beginning at 11:30.
