Mary Dyson's Obituary
Ms. Mary Rosetta Lipscomb-Dyson, 71, of Frederick, MD, made her transition from labor to reward Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Northampton Manor Rehab Center, Frederick, MD. She was born October 2, 1951, to the late Tony and Margaret Jackson. A native of Knoxville, MD, she was known to her family and friends as "Galley."
Mary graduated from Brunswick High School, Brunswick, MD, in 1969. She was joined in Holy Matrimony with her late husband, James Lipscomb until his passing in 1977. Mary worked at K-Mart as the Assistant Manager for over 20 years until she retired to become a full-time caregiver to her late Uncle and Aunt, Archie and Thelma Gross, whom she affectionately referred to as her second parents. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, both near and far, and being a faithful member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Knoxville, MD, serving as a Trustee and supporting the youth ministry. Mary loved to sew, was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and enjoyed listening to her oldies. She loved to plant flowers both indoors and outdoors. Mary loved hosting field parties at the top of Shady Lane. In later years, she was a youth softball coach and often supported the local schools as a volunteer.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Michelle Lipscomb-Payne of Lovettsville, VA and Nicole Johnston (Mike) of Frederick, MD; grandchildren, Quentin Tinker, Gregory Harris Jr., Cameron, Ciara, and Camari Johnston; great-grandchildren, Kalahyia, Kamahyia, and Lemar Williams; siblings Lydia Mallory (Charles), Joseph Jackson (Arie), and Helen Jackson Payne; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, to include her special nephew Douglas "Bo" Henderson. She will also be remembered by Mr. Richard Dyson, Jr. and family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by two siblings, John and Douglas Henderson; brother and sister-in-laws, Harry and Charles Lipscomb, Hilda Scott, Edna Ramey, Charlotte Johnson, Margaret Barnes, Janet and Diane Lipscomb.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Frederick Health Hospice care team and the caregivers at Northampton Manor.
Services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. Chapel, 9501B Catoctin Mtn Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am.
