Marvin B. Payne of Charles Town, WV at age 79 went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2017 after a seven-year battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on September 26, 1938 in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son of the late Roger B. and Sarah L. Scruggs Payne. He is survived by daughters, Lisa FouchAC. and husband Ashley FouchAC. of Knoxville, MD, Michelle Ryan and husband E. Shane Ryan of Frederick, MD; sister, Marylou Painter and husband Charles of Columbia, TN; sisters-in-law Joan Payne of Memphis, TN, Virginia Payne of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Dalton FouchAC., Ayden FouchAC., Reilly Ryan, Durham Ryan; and several nieces and nephews. Marvin proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, K Company, 116th Infantry, 29th Division of Charlottesville, VA. He remained in the reserves into the 70's. After graduating from Lane High School in 1958, Marvin began his career in 1959 working in the Mail Room for State Farm Insurance Company in Charlottesville, VA. After 6 years with the company he received a promotion to Underwriting Specialist. He then transferred to the Capitol Underwriting Division at the State Farm Regional Office in Frederick, Maryland. Marvin retired in 1999 from State Farm with 40 years of service. Marvin and his wife Audrey were residents of Brunswick, MD for 22 years before moving to Charles Town, West Virginia. Marvin served as a past President of the Brunswick Rotary Club, was a member of the Toastmasters Club, American Legion, Elks and Moose organizations. In 1986 he and his wife moved to Charles Town, WV to Sleepy Hollow Golf Course. Marvin was an avid golfer and Member of the Sleepy Hollow Country Club and a Course Marshal at Locust Hills Golf Course. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Audrey L. Bingler Payne; siblings, Lloyd Payne, Elwood Payne, Randolph Payne, and William Payne; and grandchildren Madison Ryan and Gage FouchAC.. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 9th at Faith Baptist Church, 2212 Jefferson Pike, Knoxville, MD, where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 Noon, the Rev. Jack Marcom, Jr., officiating. A reception at will follow the funeral service at Faith Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will take place on Sunday, December 10th at 1:00 PM in Monticello Memory Gardens, 670 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy., Charlottesville, VA. A reception at the Monticello Visitor center will follow the burial.
