Marlene Sclar's Obituary
Marlene Sclar, of Charlotte, NC (formerly of Frederick, MD) passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, after a brief illness.
Marlene was born in Frederick, MD on April 15, 1954, to Sylvia and Reuben Sclar. She lived most of her life in Frederick and had only moved to Charlotte, NC in the past year to live with her older sister, Ellen Sclar Nelson. After attending Governor Thomas Johnson High School, Marlene received her undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland and her master’s degree at the Johns Hopkins University. A devoted and accomplished educator, media specialist, and colleague, Marlene will be remembered by her fellow teachers and many students as having an unparalleled work ethic, a focus on bringing out the best in those around her, and her kind and caring demeanor. By her wide network of friends, she will be remembered as a sweet soul, with an always ready smile and a story to tell. Marlene dressed in an impressive and classic style and was often seen around town with her trusty camera around her neck. She took the hobby of photography very seriously and was eager to learn more and hone her skill, as her exceptional talent was quite evident. She enjoyed traveling and she shared beautiful pictures of her many trips. Marlene embraced the children of every friend and family member near and far. She had a special love for her niece, Dori, and two nephews, Philip and Aaron, and had immense joy in welcoming their spouses and children into the family fold.
Marlene is survived by her beloved sister, Ellen Sclar Nelson (Frank); her niece Dori Nelson Slutsky (Brian), nephews Philip Nelson and Aaron Nelson (Elisa); great nieces and nephews, Reed Nelson, Alexa Nelson, Morgan Nelson, Reagan Slutsky, and Austin Slutsky; and many cousins.
