Mrs. Marjorie Beth ( Russell ) Hurd, 79, Frederick, died Friday January 2 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the wife of Charles "Chuck" LeRoy Hurd, her husband of of 40 1/2 years, who died January 22, 1999.Born in Wichita, Kansas on January 18, 1935 she was a daughter of the late Charles Raymond and Marjorie Elizabeth Russell. She had taught elementary school at Thomas Stone elementary school in Prince Georges, Co. MD. She was a devoted member of Christ Reformed UCC, Middletown where she served in many capacities including, Elder, Deacon, Called and Care, Youth and Adult Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir in the 1970's and 80's.She was honored as "Sportsman of the Year" in 1977 for her work with the Middletown Valley Athletic Association initiating a sports program for the young girls of Middletown.Her greatest joys were partnering with a loving husband and God, raising two children, music, gardening with neighbors, friends and church family, and laughing most of all.She is survived by:1 daughter - Beth Cayer and husband Jon and their children Kathleen and Jonathan1 son - Russell Vincent Hurd and wife Melody1 brother - Larry Raymond Russell - Rockville1 sister - Judith Ann Russell - Hilton Head, SCnieces - Julie Russell, Catherine McDermott, Michelle Barrettnephew - Scott Russellgreat-nephew - Matthew RussellFriends may call 6 to 9 PM in the chapel at Christ Reformed UCC, 12 S. Church St., Middletown on Monday January 5. Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Tuesday January 6 at from the church. Rev. Mark A. Wakefield will officiate. Interment will be made in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
