Marilu Tousignaut's Obituary
Mary Louisa (Marilu) Walbert Tousignaut passed away at home after a strong fight with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born June 10, 1939, in Glasgow Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Jewell Acton and Mary Kathryn Crow Walbert. Marilu graduated from Riverside High School in Riverside California and went on to become a hospital pediatric nurse where she met her beloved husband Dr Dwight Tousignaut. After marrying, Dwight and Marilu with her son Thom moved to Cario Egypt where her daughters Denise and Tracy were born. After returning to the states, the family moved to Virginia and then settled in Frederick County MD where she began her long successful career as a nature and fiber artist.
An active member of the art community in Frederick, Marilu would often be found in numerous art shows, galleries, committee meetings and groups throughout the 1970s-2010s. Marilu was a founding member of both the Schifferstadt Gallery and the Artist Gallery in Frederick. While attending art shows, Marilu would be found wearing period clothing while hand spinning wool into yarn for upcoming knitting or weaving projects. As an artist she specialized in scratchboard, pen and ink, water color and acrylic. Her many art projects included Africa wildlife, waterfowl, historical landscapes and landmarks, Luke (her dog) and song birds.
Marilu loved traveling and was blessed to be able to travel worldwide with her husband and in their later years joined by their dear friends Rick and Linda Parsons of Scottsdale AZ.
Marilu was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick volunteering in many capacities during the 1970s-2010. Marilu was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club with her friends of over 30 years. Marilu loved nature and her yearly trip to Cacapon State Park with her Merry in the Mountains friends in Cabin 19.
Marilu was much loved by her family and is survived by her son, Thom Tousignaut, wife Ruth, of Middletown Md, daughter Denise Tousignaut, husband Phillip, of Harpers Ferry WV, daughter Tracy Reed, husband Brian, of Smithsburg MD; 5 grandchildren Jacob Tousignaut (Debbie), Lewis Reed, Jenni McDonnal (Christopher), Evan Reed, and Michael Tousignaut (Olivia); 6 great grandchildren Caleb, Gabriel, Hannah, Ian, Jack, and Cole. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years Dr Dwight Tousignaut.
A celebration of life will be held at Surreybrooke Gardens in Middletown. Date and time to be announced.
