Marguerite "Maggie" Winkler's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce Marguerite “Maggie” Winkler (Orsini), age 72, passed away March 2, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones at her home in New Market, Maryland.
She was born December 2, 1953, in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Stephen Orsini and Irene Orsini (Hughes).
For 36 years, Maggie served Montgomery County Government, where she worked at the Division of Fleet Services.
Maggie was a travel bug. She had an insatiable desire to travel and explore new places; she had an endless bucket list, one she was willing to share with anyone who would travel with her. There wasn’t a cruise she wouldn’t take or a country she wouldn't visit. Of all the places she visited, her favorite was Maho Beach on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, where she loved to watch the planes take off and land over the ocean.
Maggie loved her family immensely, and every person she met immediately became family to her. Hers was always the first card or gift received, and she didn’t need a special occasion to send one. She was always a phone call away, always ready to lend a hand or ear; there was nothing better than picking up the phone to hear her sing happy birthday or happy anniversary at the top of her lungs.
Maggie touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all of us.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Winkler, and her sister, Kathleen Buffum.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Kelli Cole (Will) and grandsons Paul and Alex; Seven siblings, Joseph (Molly), Stephen (Sally), Gina, James, Michael, William (Tammy), and Cecelia (Terence); 22 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews; along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.
A celebration of Maggie’s exceptional life will be held on March 7, 2026, 10:30-12:00 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home in Frederick, Maryland. Maggie’s final resting place will be in Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband Richard “Dick” Winkler at a later date.
