Mrs. Margaret Blanche (Newsome) Turner of Frederick, MD entered into eternal rest peaceably on February 8.2018 at her home. The daughter of the late Margaret E. and Clifford B. Newsome of Bronx, NY, she was the devoted wife of the late Cornelius Henry Turner for over 60 years, who preceded her in death in 2012. Sh was also preceded in death by her only sister, Juanita Newsome Whitehurst, who died in 2009. Born in the Bronx on July 22, 1928, Margaret received her elementary education in the public schools of New York City. She moved to Norfolk, VA where she was raised by her paternal grandparents, Paul and Blanche Newsome, after her mother died when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk and went on to receive her BS degree in Business Education at Virginia State University. She went onto graduate studies at Western Maryland College, Norfolk State University and the University of Maryland, earning her Master's Equivalency in Education. Margaret taught at Lylburn Downing High School in Lexington, VA for two years before she married in 1951 and moved to Baltimore with her husband. There, she taught business courses at night and also worked part-time as a school secretary. The Turners moved to Frederick in 1954, where she worked as a secretary at Fort Detrick for three years before returning to teaching in 1963, teaching business education for 19 years at Brunswick High School, and West Frederick and Monocacy Middle Schools for an additional six. She retired in 1988. After retiring, Margaret traveled to the majority of states with her husband, to include Alaska and Hawaii. They also traveled internationally, to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and many countries in Europe to include France, England, Spain, Italy and Germany. Margaret was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, where she served for many years as an Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 50 years, serving in many capacities, including treasurer for several terms. In 1963, Margaret joined the Frederick Chapter of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc., where she served in various capacities for many years. She was a board member of the Frederick County Retired School of Personnel Association, and has been a member of the AARP, NAACP, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and College Women's Club. For over 20 years, Margaret volunteered at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Margaret is survivted by: her five children, Kenneth Cornelius Turner (Nicole), of Greenbelt, MD, Eric Carlton Turner, of Ft. Washington, MD, Valerie Jean, of District Heights, MD, Denise Antoinette White (Robert), of Walkersville, MD and Eileen Juanita King, of Frederick, MD; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of dear friends and relatives.
