Margaret Elizabeth Johnson's Obituary
Margaret Elizabeth Johnson, 91, of Mt. Airy, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, January 12, 2024.
Born November 26, 1932, in Mt. Airy, she was the daughter of Isaac Zachariah and Lucy Mae (Hutchinson) Dotson. She was the wife of the late Harry Wilson Johnson, Sr., and was the last surviving member of her siblings.
During her early years, she worked at various jobs, but was always trying to to find better employment, opportunities. She obtained her GED diploma and was employed briefly by the General Services Administration in Germantown, MD.
Margaret went on to work for the National Geographic Society in Gaithersburg, MD. She was a very enterprising woman who constantly sought ways to earned additional income and would often volunteer for additional assignments from her employer. She retired after 25 years as a data entry operator in July of 1994.
When the internet came into existence, she learned how to get on the information super highway and joined a network of women who knew how to use coupons and rebates to support their households. She would often talk about how she only had to pay a few dollars for groceries because of all the coupons she used.
Margaret was a quiet and gentle person who was willing to help and share words of encouragement, wisdom and advice when needed. She was a long-time member of Friendship UMC in Damascus and also attended Grace and Truth Bible Fellowship.
She loved to travel, going on vacation to places like Tia Juana, Mexico, California’s Sequoia Forest, San Francisco’s Lombard Street, Seattle, WA, cruising to Alaska to see the glaciers, as well as cruising to Puerto Rico, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the Virgin Islands, and CocoCay Bahamas.
Those left to cherish her memory are three children: Sandra Johnson of Riverside, CA, Harry W. Johnson, Jr. (Robin) of Mt. Airy, MD, Joan Thompson (Lester) of Frederick, MD; grandsons RhaaShan Johnson (Jylinda) of Annandale, VA and Brian Johnson of Baltimore, MD; granddaughters Dasina Horne of Moreno Valley, CA and Asha Horne of Los Angeles, CA; Niya Yeboah (Emmanuel) of Mt. Airy, MD; great grandchildren William and Mirabel Yeboah, Justin and Blake Johnson, a special cousin Madeline Kenny and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by two children, Virginia and Linwood Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Frederick, MD on Thursday January 25, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Pastor Tyree Newman, M. Div., will officiate and Pastor Harry Johnson, Jr., M. Div., will deliver the eulogy.
