Luis Alberto Cárdenas' Obituary
Luis Alberto Cárdenas, age 62, passed away at his home in Zephyrhills, Florida on February 16, 2026.
Born on December 18, 1963, in Lima, Peru, he was the son of Victor Cárdenas and Genoveva Contreras Cárdenas. Luis lived in Frederick, Maryland for 23 years and worked as a mechanical engineer. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and served in many Hispanic ministries throughout his time there with his wife, Carmen.
Luis loved playing his guitar and listening to music, traveling, and spending time near any body of water. He enjoyed cooking for his family and hosting gatherings alongside Carmen. Known for his skill with his hands, he was involved in many home projects for friends and family. Over the last year of his life, he especially cherished the time he spent in Florida with his daughter, Crystal.
Luis is survived by his daughters, Crystal, Kelly, and Shania Cárdenas, and his grandson, Adrian Cárdenas. He also leaves behind his mother, Genoveva, eleven siblings and their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor; his siblings, Bruno and Susana; and his wife of 36 years, Carmen Benites Cárdenas.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Rest Haven Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, Maryland 21701.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at 12:00 PM.
A reception with light refreshments will take place afterward, and the family encourages friends and loved ones to attend.
