Mrs. Lois Jane Late's Obituary
Mrs. Lois Jane Late, 90, of Thurmont, passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2023.
Born on December 20, 1932 in Thurmont, MD, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Stambaugh and Ethel Favorite Stambaugh. Lois was the beloved wife of the late Harold Late for 49 years, until his passing in 2001.
Lois graduated from Frederick High School in 1951. She was employed at Potomac Edison and Eveready Company for eight years before she quit working to help Harold run the farm and raise their two children. After they graduated, in 1981 she went to work selling fruit in the summer at Pryor’s Orchard for 18 years. She was an active member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, teaching young children in Sunday School and playing the organ and piano. Together, she and Harold were treasurers of the church for 66 years.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, her infant brother Charles, two sisters, Frances Clem (Harvey) and Doris Warthen (Dave), a brother Lyman Stambaugh (Betty Lou), two nieces, Linda and Susie Clem, a nephew, Tony Clem, and her brother-in-law, Carroll Fraley. She is survived by her sister Celia Fraley; her son Dwyane & wife Toni; her daughter Pam; grandchildren, Steven and Jenny, whom she loved dearly; two step-grandchildren, Lindsey and Heidi; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 16th from 12 – 2 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home & Community Center, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy. in Frederick, where a funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM on Thursday. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Thurmont Ambulance Co. Fund, Glenn Muth Ass.
