Lisa Michelle Watson Prime's Obituary
There are rare people who always leave a room much brighter than they found it. Lisa Michelle Watson Prime was one of those people — incredibly lovely by every measure, and yet somehow even more beautiful within than the world could see from the outside.
Our beloved Lisa passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on June 18, 2026, at the age of 59, leaving behind a family and a community that is still catching its breath.
Lisa was born on August 13, 1966, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, and grew up in Forest Hill, Maryland, where she came of age with the warmth and easy grace that would define her for the rest of her life. She graduated from C. Milton Wright High School in 1984, trained at the Medix School, and worked for a time as a dental assistant — already, in every role she inhabited, the kind of person who made everyone around her feel genuinely glad to be there.
It was during her twenty years with Howard County Public Schools that Lisa’s remarkable gift for human connection found its fullest expression. She spent thirteen of those years working in special education — as a paraeducator at Reservoir High School, Mount Hebron High School, and Glenelg High School — giving her time, her patience, and her heart to students who needed someone truly steadfast in their corner. She later served as a testing assistant at Glenelg before becoming the Teachers’ Secretary at Folly Quarter Middle School, where she was, quite simply, the face and smile that greeted everyone who walked through the door. Colleagues, students, and parents found in her someone they could always count on — not just to do her job beautifully, but to make the day feel more human. She built lasting friendships everywhere she went, among people who came to cherish her kindness, her gentleness, her quiet strength, and — when the moment called for it — her feistiness. Beneath the warmth that disarmed everyone she met was a woman of real resilience, someone who could absorb the most difficult moments and still respond with grace.
Lisa was, above all else, a loving mother and adoring grandmother, and it was in those roles that her heart found its truest home. Her beloved children, Ryan Mason and Rachel Reed, were among the greatest loves of her life, and she poured herself into them with a devotion that never wavered. She embraced Ryan’s wife, Marcia, and Rachel’s husband, Drew, with the same boundless warmth she brought to everything and everyone she held dear. But if you truly wanted to see Lisa become her most radiant self, you needed only to mention her grandsons. Ryan and Riley Reed were her world. She was their Mimi, and no title she ever held meant more. She added their games and activities to the family calendar as a matter of course — because of course she did — and she treasured every single moment she could watch them grow, play, and be loved.
In 2014, Lisa’s life took a joyful new turn when she fell in love with Vann Prime, a former colleague from Mount Hebron High School and, in every sense that mattered, her best friend and companion. They made their home together in New Market, Maryland, and in April 2017, they married in Salzburg, Austria — the city immortalized by her beloved Sound of Music, cradled among the Alps that moved her like nowhere else on earth. Theirs was a bond evident to everyone fortunate enough to witness it, a love as enduring as it was joyful.
Together, Lisa and Vann discovered a shared passion for travel and adventure that carried them to France, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. But their sense of wonder never required a passport. They made a practice of exploring something new every weekend — touring historic homes, seeking out new restaurants, taking the grandsons to baseball games. Lisa was always ready for whatever came next, always curious, always genuinely glad to be alive and in the world. She loved nature and animals. She loved people deeply, and people loved her back without reservation.
At home, she was equally at peace — always connected to the people she loved, following family and friends through social media with the same devoted attention she gave everyone she cared about. She loved television and a good laugh, and she had a sharp, wonderful sense of humor that caught people off guard in the best possible way. She had an unerring eye for style and took quiet pride in always being impeccably turned out — a gift made all the more remarkable by her legendary talent for finding a bargain. Shopping, for Lisa, was something close to an art form. And through every quiet evening at home, her beloved Ragdoll cat Hobbes was her faithful and constant companion.
Lisa is survived by her adoring husband, Vann; her children, Ryan Mason (Marcia) and Rachel Reed (Drew); her grandsons, Ryan and Riley Reed; her mother, Vivian Watson; and her sister, Jennifer Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her father, Clifton Watson.
Those who loved her know that the world has lost a woman of incredible warmth, intelligence, and beauty — and that the lives she touched are richer for having known her.
A celebration of Lisa’s life will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Frederick, Maryland. Friends and family are welcome to join an open visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 25, 2026. A private service and reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Animal Welfare League of Frederick County, MD: https://www.awlfc.org/donate.
