Mr. Lewis Thomas Wade, age 99 of Frederick, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Ann Wade. They were married for 70 years. Born on November 20, 1915 in Ohio, he was the son of the late Sanford and Ora Dell Wade.Lew was known for his lightheartedness. He almost always had a joke or story to tell you. He had a profound love for family and friends and wanted to make you laugh. He began performing at the age of 12 years. He was a musician over a span of 70 years with numerous local musical groups ultimately performing at many Fraternal Organizations with the Lew Wade Combo. In his earlier years, he toured with Hank Snow, The singing Ranger for three years. When there was free time on tour, he enjoyed wrestling with Hank Snow. He performed with other notables including Minnie Pearl, Grampa Jones, Jimmy Dean, Tex Ritter and Patsy Cline and performed at radio stations WFMD, WSM, and WWVA Wheeling Jamboree.Lew retired from WFMD after nine years. He was a principle in establishing and operating Radio Station WKEG in Washington, PA. He attended Calvary Methodist Church and was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 371 and Elks Lodge 684. Lew will be remembered by Coffee Club Members and his special friends Dick and Shelia Thompson, Leo Shank and Steve Thomas.Mr. Wade is survived by his two sons, Gene Wade of Los Angeles, CA, and Robert Wade and wife Ruth of Stow, OH. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Paul Wade, brothers Norman, Rube and sisters Merhle Higgins and Carrie Wade.The family will receive friends on Monday, March 23, 2015 from 10 to 11 am at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will begin at 11 am. Rev. Harry C. Cole will officiate. The interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
