Mr. Lewis A Cullen, Jr., 83, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2016 at Dove House Hospice with his family by his side. He was the husband of Sadie Cullen, whom he married September 14, 1956. Born in Riverside, VA, he was the son of the late Lewis A. Cullen, Sr. and Josephine LaRue Hansford. He was a longtime member of Steamfitters Local 602 in Washington, DC. His steamfitter apprenticeship was interrupted by the Korean War; Lewis rejected deferment and served two years in the U.S. Army. Mr. Cullen had a long career as a steamfitter, retiring in 1992, and was very active in his retirement. He had a beautiful woodworking and metal shop in which he could make most anything he wished; he loved photography and music, and enjoying time with Sadie and his extended family. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Cullen is survived by four children, Lewis A. Cullen III & wife Darla, Andrew Cullen, Judith Naill & husband Curtis, and Kathleen Cullen; a sister, Martha Hannah & husband John; a brother, David Cullen; four grandchildren, Jaclyn Watts & husband Kenny, Emily Deutsch & husband Joey, Logan Beverly, and Lucas Beverly; a great-grandson, Gavin Deutsch; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. A funeral service will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 15th at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Foot procession and interment with military honors will follow the funeral service.
