Lester C. Thompson's Obituary
Leste Charles Thompson, age 70, of Frederick, MD, passed away after a long illness at Frederick Health Hospital on February 21, 2026.
He was born on April 4, 1955, in the "Windy City," Chicago, Illinois. Lester was the son of the late Martha Thompson and Charles Dixon.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 36 years Joan Johnson Thompson, two brothers, Marcus Thompson of Chicago and Melvin Thompson of Germantown, MD. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, brothers, James Thompson, Victor Thompson, and sister Ameda Thompson.
Lester attended Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago. After graduating from High School, he enrolled at the University of Iowa. During his time there, he tutored freshmen and sophomores in accounting while working on his bachelor's degree. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1977 with a B.B.A. degree in accounting.
He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he worked in a variety of accounting positions for companies like Donaldson Company and Honeywell, Inc. In 1982, he earned the designation as a Certified Public Accountant.
Lester moved to Maryland in 1985 and was employed as a Contract Administrator for Loral Corporation and later IBM in Rockville, MD until his retirement in 2015.
His work often took him to many foreign countries, such as Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and seeing the sights like the great pyramids in Egypt.
He enjoyed reading and learning new skills. One of those skills he acquired was his knowledge of computers. Lester liked to help people with their "tech" problems and was pretty handy at fixing many PC issues. He had a motto, "You break it, I fix it."
He leaves behind to forever cherish his memory a loving wife, his two brothers, a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Lester will be missed by his wonderful neighbors and other friends he made during his lifetime.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Friendship United Methodist Church, 27701 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD. Rev. Tyree Newman will be officiating and Rev. Harry Johnson, is the eulogist.
