Mr. Leonard G. Hays' Obituary
Leonard G. Hays, of Frederick, MD, was born in Neptune, NJ, to Carolyn and Guy Hays. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force as a Special Purpose Vehicle Mechanic.
In September 1980, he married Heidi of Belmar, NJ. They traveled the world together for the next 20 years, raising their two children, Rebecca and Alexander, as Leo continued to serve.
He retired as a Technical Sergeant. After the military, he began work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, eventually becoming Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance. He retired again in 2022.
He was pre-deceased by his father.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Heidi, his 2 children, Rebecca, Alexander and wife, and 3 grandchildren, his mother Carolyn, sister Judy and husband, his half-brother Guy and wife, and many cousins and family around the USA.
Leo was a lifelong model railroading enthusiast, volunteered for several youth groups, and his passion for turning wrenches kept him busy. It didn’t matter if it was something around the house or equipment at work, if it was broken – he could fix it.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the National Stroke Association (https://www.stroke.org/).
A private Celebration of Life is being planned.
The family would like to thank the EMTs, medical staff at Frederick Memorial and MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
