Mrs. Lela Mae Robinson's Obituary
Mrs. Lela Mae Robinson, 98, of Frederick, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Edenton Retirement Community on October 28, 2023. She was the loving wife of Walter C. “Pat” Robinson III, her husband of 71 years.
Born Sept. 26, 1925 in Savannah, GA, Lela was the daughter of the late Tom and Mamie Fields. She earned her nursing degree in Charleston, SC and received her commission as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army. She served in the Korean War, and met her future husband when they were both stationed at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. After their military service, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson returned to civilian life and raised their family.
Mrs. Robinson was a member of the Fitzhugh Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid cook and gardener, and a skilled seamstress and fabric collector. She loved to travel, and she and Mr. Robinson have been longtime parishioners of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Walkersville.
In addition to her loving husband, Pat, Mrs. Robinson is survived by three sons, Thomas Robinson, Michael Robinson & his wife Cloris, and Patrick Robinson & his wife Amy; grandsons, Tommy and Christopher Robinson; a great-grandson, Nicholas; two great-granddaughters, Aowyn and Ayla, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by all five of her sisters, Lois, Ruby, Caroline, Jeanette and Ann.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 6th, from 6 – 8 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home & Community Center, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy. in Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 7th at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road in Walkersville. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy Catholic Church.
