Larry Wayne Staton's Obituary
Larry Wayne Staton (Poochie) of Frederick, MD passed away on May 15, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on March 19, 1950, in Lexington VA to the late Jed and Mae Staton, Larry lived a life marked by dedication to his work, commitment to community and connections with family and friends. Larry retired after an impressive 41-year career as a painter with MNCPPC park and planning. His long-standing service reflected not only his strong work ethic but also his pride in contributing to the care and maintenance of public spaces.
Throughout his life Larry was actively involved in several fraternal and civic organizations. He was a previous member of the Moose #371, Elks #684, and Eagles #1067. At the time of his passing, he was an active member of the Redmen Chippewa Tribe #19 where he enjoyed weekly lunches. These affiliations to his enduring spirit of camaraderie and community involvement.
His passions were many and varied -- bowling, softball, darts, pool, horseshoes, cornhole, poker, and sport fishing were his favorite pastimes along with growing his flowers and vegetables and being very particular about his yard. His green thumb was matched by his appreciation for sharing the fruits of his labor with others. Larry was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. His loyalty to the team was unwavering and often sparked spirited conversations with family and friends.
Larry shared 53years of marriage with his beloved wife Marjorie (Margie) Staton. Together they built a family rooted in love and support. He is survived by their daughter Tammy Brawner (George) and their son Daryl Staton (Karen), grandchildren Cole Brawner, Brianna Brawner, Lexi Staton, Kaiden Staton, and Billy Monroe, and great-grandchildren Payton Sonifrank and Addison Monroe.
He will also be remembered by his sisters Maxine (Tap) and Katherine Mellinger, brothers-in-law David Monroe (Janet), Larry Monroe (Heather), sisters-in-law Debbie Leizear, Cindy Benear (Dan), Chrissy Monroe as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors.
Larry was preceded in death by his brothers Jesse Staton, Russell Staton, his sisters Geraldine Cash, Barbara Barnhouse, Elizabeth Staton, Virginia Staton, Nellie Staton, brothers-in-law Richard Monroe, and Dwayne Leizear.
He will laid to rest by pall bearers George Brawner, Cole Brawner, Kaiden Staton, Larry (Fuzzy) Monroe, John Weakley, and Gary Weakley.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens located at 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD 21701 in the new building behind the mausoleum. The viewing will be from 10am-11am, with the service from 11am-12pm, followed by the burial from 12pm-12:30pm. There will be a gathering at the funeral home immediately after the burial. Family requests casual attire.
