Obituary
Mr. Kenneth Ray Sword, 82, of Frederick, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2014. He was the husband of the late Sara Jo Sword, who passed in 1996.Born in New Hall, WV, he was the son of the late Skipper and Sadie Sword. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating high school, and was stationed on Okinawa during the Korean War. He worked for the Federal Government until he retired in 1985. Along with his late wife, Mr. Sword was a helping founder of the ARC of Frederick County, and he remained active with the organization. He also served as Vice President and President of the Frederick High School Band Boosters for several years, and was Steward and Chief Steward of the local chapter of AFGE.Mr. Sword was also the biggest fan ever of the Frederick Keys baseball team. He was a season ticket holder for over 15 years, attending every game with his late son Michael and his close companion Jocelyn Wetzel, and was afforded privileges by the team and the stadium that were not available to ordinary fans and spectators. He also loved bluegrass and country music.In addition to his loving wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Sword, and five siblings, Donald, Glenna, Dixie, Imogene, and Jimmy. He is survived by four children, Kenneth Ray Sword, Jr., John Sword, Billy Sword & wife Wendi, and Christie Crutchley & husband Ken; four grandchildren, Darrick, Savannah, Hunter, and Tyler; a sister, Faye Lawson and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.The family will receive friends on Friday, January 2nd from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick, where a funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment with military honors will follow in the Garden of Christus at Resthaven.
