Karen Herman's Obituary
Karen Herman passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, following a long illness, surrounded by the love of her family. Her passing came just months after a joyful family celebration marking the marriage of her granddaughter, Kristina—a moment of happiness that will forever remain close to our hearts.
Karen will be remembered for her vivacious personality, youthful spirit, and beauty, as well as for being a wonderful, loving, and supportive mother. After leaving a marriage of nearly 25 years, she demonstrated remarkable strength and determination by building a life of personal and financial independence. She entered the workforce beginning in retail and eventually secured a long-term position with the federal government as an administrative secretary overseeing grants at the National Institutes of Health. She took great pride in her work, which ultimately provided her with a secure and well-earned retirement.
In retirement, Karen was very social and enjoyed many cruises and trips with her partner, Jim. She traveled frequently to family gatherings and especially loved cooking for friends and family.
One treasured memory is a photo taken (below) after celebrating Karen’s 80th birthday, showing her children together—Scott, Wendy, and Chris. At the time, no one imagined she would be gone just a year and a half later, but that moment now stands as a beautiful reminder of family, love, and togetherness.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Helen Sievert. She is survived by her children, Scott Herman (Carolyn), Wendy Bayley, and Chris Herman (Sonia); her grandchildren, Kristina Carter (Sean), Candace Delauter (Croix), Amber Delcid (Rudy), Alyssa Herman, Leanne Langlands (Peter), and Geoffrey Wolf; seven great-grandchildren; her partner, Jim Calder; her brothers, Ronald Sievert (Renee) and Jeffrey Sievert (Alisha); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
