Judith Marelyn Lord Elmer's Obituary
Judith Marelyn Lord Elmer, 82, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on December 23, 2023. Judy was born in June of 1941, to Dwight and Elizabeth Lord in the District of Columbia. After she graduated from High Point High School (Beltsville, Maryland) in 1959, she went on to study Art and Education at the University of Maryland. She was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority.
Judy was a teacher in Wolfsville, Maryland for many years. She held various other administrative positions throughout her career. She worked at Hood College,
Racal, and after earning a second degree in Paralegal Studies, she worked at a local law office.
In 1970, Judy married Morgan Elmer in Burtonsville, Maryland. Judy and Morgan went on to have 2 children, Robert and James, and 4 grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Judy was very creative and loved to knit, sew, quilt, paint, and scrapbook. She was especially talented in calligraphy and did many invitations, signs, and certificates. She volunteered within her retirement community as well as at Frederick Hospital where she was a greeter for many years. She also enjoyed participating in Care Wear, a group of volunteers that knit or sew handmade items for hospital patients. Judy also did extensive work in family genealogy. She enjoyed spending her summers at the family camp in Hope, Maine which is located on Hobbs Pond.
She is survived by her son Robert Elmer (Kristan) of Redmond, Washington, son James Elmer (Megan) of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and grandchildren Hannah, Zachary, Sarah, and Nathan. She is also survived by sister Rebecca Holliday (Don), brother Bruce Lord (Linda), brother David Lord (Linda), 9 nieces and nephews, and many grand nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held at a later date in Camden, Maine. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Care Wear, http://carewear.org/.
