My Papi,
I’ve known him for 36 years and he was one of the finest men I’ve ever known. Papi welcomed me into his family early on and made me feel like his second son. We built things with our hands together and I would marvel how he was able to calculate measurements so quickly and exact. We had long discussions about life and I learned so much about his life after coming to America. I quickly realized he and Mami were not much different from my parents. They loved parties with friends and family. They loved music and they loved their children. I was so proud for him when he became a U.S. citizen. I was there when he came home and the smile and glint in his eye was truly beautiful. Mami gained her citizenship later and between the two they epitomized the American dream. Papi was always a modest and humble man. He put himself before others. He could light up a room with his smile and engaging personality. I will always love him and will forever miss him.
It's hard to put some things into words, but I did want to express my deepest sorrow and sympathy for Manolo's passing. It's difficult to come up with a single memory at this time because there are so many. Let's just say that some of my best childhood memories include our dear Manolito. He was one of my father's closest friends and our families were family. When I was growing up we used to see each other practically every weekend from an early age. Whether it was at our house or theirs, we would look forward to getting together , we just couldn't wait. So many great parties at Manolo and Michita's from early childhood through adulthood. I still look back fondly at those days and miss them. We were always together, we were carefree, safe and loved. That's the environment he created around him and everyone that knew him always felt welcomed because he was such a kind , generous man. He also had a very good sense of humor and he really enjoyed making everyone laugh. It's such a great loss to everyone. I feel for you Sandra, Maria and Juan. We can take comfort knowing he's no longer in any pain and he's reunited with his beloved Michita. Rest in peace Manolo❤️
