Joseph (Joe) L. Burskey Jr.'s Obituary
Obituary
Joseph (Joe) L. Burskey, Jr. of Fairfield, PA, age 81, who battled Parkinson’s disease for many years, entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2021.
He is survived by his loving wife Myra; their son Joe; their daughters Tina and Sandra Tilles; their son-in-law Paul Tilles; and their grandchildren Anna and Zach.
Joe was born on January 14, 1940 in Spangler, PA to father Joseph Burskey and mother Anna (Gwizdak) Burskey, who both predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by sisters and brother: Barbara (Elmer) Fletcher, David Burskey, and Gloria Charney. He is survived by brothers and sister: Frank (Bonnie) Burskey; Jerry (Lou) Burskey; Jeannie Stone, numerous nieces and nephews, lifelong best friend Frank (Carol) Bell, and other dear, long-term friends and neighbors.
He grew up in a loving family with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Early on Joe served 6 years in the U.S. Army and 2 years as a police officer. He then began a career in the telephone company. During his time there, he taught himself geometry and physics in order to progress in his career. After 25 years at Bell/Verizon he took an early retirement. Later on, Joe fulfilled a dream having his own mechanic’s garage where he ran his automotive repair business until he moved to Fairfield, PA. As long as he was able, he remained active using his mechanical and handyman skills to maintain his home and serve others.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, gardening, playing guitar and violin, riding the Harley Davidson motorcycle built by his brother, making homemade pierogis (he especially liked including his own homegrown potatoes in the recipe), and most of all, loudly singing praises to God.
Joe was a faithful and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He cherished his wife and loved and cared for his children and grandchildren. He was greatly devoted to regularly praying for those he loved. He loved reading the Bible, and wanted to hear it read to him up until his final day on earth. He loved to tell others about Jesus, and for many years eagerly anticipated the day he would get to be with Jesus in heaven, where he is now.
The Memorial Service that was originally scheduled in January was postponed. The Memorial Service will now be held at 1:00pm on Saturday April 2, 2022 at Cornerstone Fellowship Church located at 66 Waverly Drive, Suite 630, Frederick, Maryland 21702.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the charities Joe was happy to support: Lee Short Ministries International which helps impoverished children: https://www.lsmi.org/
