Mr. John Selman Turner's Obituary
John Selman Turner, 89, of Walkersville, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 24, 2023. He was the loving husband of the late Dorothy Turner, who passed in 2007.
Born September 8, 1934 in Baltimore, MD, John was the son of the late John Paul Turner and Josephine Lacey Turner. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954, and served honorably until his discharge in 1958. He served in the Navy Reserves briefly before re-enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he served another four years. After his military service, John attended Loyola University and began his career as a computer operator working for the State of Maryland at UMBC. He was active in the Walkersville Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mr. Turner, better known as “Poppy”, is survived by his children, Dolly Rodgers & husband Jim, Rick Bentley & wife Denise, and Andrea Beatty; and 36 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren whom he loved very much. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Turner & wife Laura, and other relatives and friends.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
