Mr. John E. Harley, Sr., age 86 of Thurmont peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Kline Hospice House, Mt. Airy. He was the husband of the late Patsy Harley who passed away on January 10, 2003. Born on September 24, 1928 in Yellow Springs he was the son of the late Warren and Mary Harley.Mr. Harley worked for over 50 years for Charles F. Murphy Plumbing, Frederick. In his free time he enjoyed mushroom hunting, gardening, pitching horseshoes and playing baseball with his family.Mr. Harley is the father of Sylvia Matz of Florida, John Harley, Jr. of Florida, Bonita Brandl of Frederick and Bridget Plunkard and husband Brian of Sabillasville; the grandfather of Chasity, Bradley, Richard, Briar, Brandi, Brayden and numerous others in Florida, and the great-grandfather of 16. He is also survived by his siblings Robert Harley, Mary Kefauver, Warren Harley, and Gloria Grimes. He is preceded in death by many brothers.The family will received friends on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 2 PM. The interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. Contributions may be made in Mr. Harley's name to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
