John N. Carnegis, 61, of Frederick, MD entered the gates of Heaven with his family by his side on Saturday, August 10, 2024, after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer. John was born August 18, 1962, in Pawtucket, RI. He was Read Obituary

John was a valued member of our organization for many years and had an amazing impact on fire service leaders around the world as he served as administrator for our Executive Fire Officer (EFO) and Managing Officer (MO) Programs. In addition to ensuring students progressed through these programs, he served as a mentor to countless future and current fire and EMS leaders engaged in these programs and also to those whom he met through his fire service journeys. His passion for the fire-rescue service continues through those he mentored and those he trained through his work at MFRI and other agencies in which he served.
Thank you for sharing John with the NFA and the fire service. There was never a doubt his first love was both of you and his second love was the fire service. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Tricia and Zoe, I am so sorry for your loss. I attended John's wake last night with my fellow firefighter brothers and sisters and was so moved listening to all the wonderful stories everyone was sharing about him. I am a native Rhode Islander and moved to Maryland 5 years ago. When I walked into my Fire 1 class and heard John's famous New England accent, it made me feel like I wasn't so far away from home... while getting my butt kicked learning what it takes to be a firefighter. My classmates and I knew that John knew what he was talking about, and when he talked, we all listened. A wise man once told me, always take time to thank the educators in your life because tomorrow is not guaranteed, and you might not get the chance to see them again. I wish I had thanked him more for the wisdom he imparted on me, and I hope he knows how much I appreciate him taking the time to teach me things that could potentially get me back home to my family. Thank you so much for sharing him with us, and as one of my brothers said last night, he will live eternally in all of us.

What a shock! I am so sorry for your loss Tricia and Zoe! John was always so passionate and dedicated to the NFA. I will surely miss him and our long talks. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Keep those memories of John close as they will help heal you. It's never easy losing a family member, as I've lost 5 brothers, both parents to murders, and just this past weekend a niece to cancer at age 52. John is in a better place. Rest in peace John. Dear Tricia and Zoe, sadly I came across John’s obituary today as I was looking for a friend’s son’s funeral service information. As I was scrolling through the names, I saw a last name that was familiar and also recognized it as Greek name and then I remembered John, and you and Zoe from my time teaching at Brook Hill Weekday Preschool and assisting the director Theresa.
