Joan Helen Wilcher's Obituary
Joan Helen Wilcher, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away on January 20, 2026. She was born on August 13, 1947, in Washington, D.C. to James and Mary Graves.
Although born in the District, Joan spent the majority of her life in Prince George’s County before moving to Thurmont in recent years. Joan dedicated 42 years of service to the Federal Government. She began her career with the Department of the Interior and later continued with the Department of Defense, where she worked as a Computer Specialist and Security professional. Her commitment, work ethic, and loyalty were hallmarks of her long career.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Wilcher; daughter, Lisa Schwier; and son, Donald Schwier, Jr and his wife, Danielle. Joan was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Christopher, Joshua, Jacob, Sydney, Emilee, Leah, and Michael. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, James Graves Jr.
The Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Catoctin Chapel at Resthaven Frederick, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will take place at a later date at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
