Ms. Joan Anne (Yetton) Derk, 82, of Thurmont, passed away on August 21, 2016 at Kline Hospice House. She was the longtime companion of John White, Sr. Born in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Pemmie Jane Yetton. Joan volunteered through the Red Cross at Ft. Detrick Medical Center for 16 years. She was a member of several organizations, including the Eastern Star, Red Cross, and Red Hat Society. In addition to her longtime companion, Joan is survived by her two children, Robert Lee Anthony, Jr. & wife Kumiko, and Nancy Anthony; her best friend, Madeline Shifflett; and many other loved ones. She was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Cocker. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, August 28th at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick, where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM on Monday, August 29th. Pastor Vickie Oliver of Lewistown United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Garden of Devotion at Resthaven.
