Retired CSM Jerry L. Grace, 73, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. Mr. Grace was the husband of Linda Marie Grace. Married on January 20, 1968, Jerry and Linda were happily married for 50 years. Born on May 14, 1944 in Greenville, KY he was the late son of Elmer Lewis and Connie Aileen Grace (Walker) and a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Grace spent his youth in Greenville, KY in a farming community, graduating from Greenville High School in 1962 before joining the armed forces and was assigned to the US Army basic training in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina on June 6, 1962. He was assigned to the Army Security Agency and proceeded to serve 22 years and 9 months as a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. His distinguished military career included embassy stations and military intelligence work with Unit 10 around the globe. CSM Grace ultimately retired with full honors at the rank of Command Sergeants Major in the 522 Military Intelligence Battalion on March 1, 1985 from Ft. Hood, Texas. During the course of his military career Mr. Grace earned several degrees in civilian and military academia to include a degree in Business Administration and Engineering. Mr. Grace followed his military career by working for first Watkins Johnson and then General Dynamics where he retired from in November of 2010. Following his retirement he became a government contracting consultant for the next three years ultimately retiring to spend time with his family in June of 2013. Upon full retirement, Mr. Grace could often be found tinkering in the yard or soaking up as much time with his wife Linda in their own enjoyments after years of dedicated service and hard work. He was a loving husband, amazing father, a devoted grandfather, brother, son and an American patriot. His best days were anywhere his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all gathered be it around the carport, pool, vacations or simply the living room to visit or celebrate life as a family. He is survived by his wife Linda Grace of Walkersville, his son Anthony L. Grace (wife Donna) of Waynesboro, PA; his daughter Tina M. Grace of Rohrersville, MD; his sister Vanita L. Jenkins (husband Gaithel) of Greenville, KY, brothers Paul G. Grace (wife Barbara); and Ronnie E. Grace (wife Donna); his grandchildren Caitlin M. Kirkpatrick, Rachel A. Kirkpatrick, Ryan D. Hawn, Allie M. Grace and Jared A. Grace; and his nine great-grandchildren Haylee M. Nuse, Brantley A. Nuse, Jackson L. Kirkpatrick, Logan J. Hoffman, Grayson S. Hoffman, Adryann D. Hawn, Bobbie J. Hawn, Dawsyn E. Hawn, and MyKena M. Riffle. He was predeceased by his brother; Bobby G. Grace of Greenville, KY. A visitation for US Army Retired, CSM Jerry L. Grace will be held on Saturday, February 3rd from 10 am to noon at the Historical Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick where a service will begin at noon with Brother Gaithel Leamon Jenkins officiating.
