Obituary
We are sad to announce Janet LaRue Riester (née Smith, formerly Jenkins), age 75, passed away in Frederick, Maryland on June 19th, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 1st, 1946, in Tacoma Park Maryland, Daughter of Merton Thomas Smith and Sarah Elizabeth (Fritz) Smith. Janet resided in Frederick Maryland.
Mother, Grandmother and retired secretary, Janet LaRue Riester’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death. Janet is survived by her loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Janet. She loved a quiet evening with family and friends. Traveling on road trips with her sister Elsie to sightsee and to visit their siblings and for family gatherings. But her greatest joy was time spent with her children and grandchildren, conversing with them on their daily lives.
Janet is survived by her beloved family; son Charles Jenkins (Kelly), daughter Tracey Jenkins Darrow (Andrew). Grandchildren; Shannon Jenkins, Devin Jenkins, Ian Darrow, Jenica Darrow, Micah Darrow. Siblings; Elsie Pyles, Myrtle Clabaugh (Marvin), Deborah Wiles (Dave), Merton Smith Jr (Jill), Donald Smith (Rhonda), Ruthie Butler (John), Mary Jarrells (Jimmy), Barbara Moxley (Larry), Hilda Robertson (Henry).
Janet was preceded in death by her parents Merton and Sarah Smith, husband John Conrad Riester, and brother Russell Smith
Friends and relatives may call on Friday July 1, 2022, at the Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 9501-B Catoctin Mountain Hwy. (Rte.15) Frederick, Maryland, 21701 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm
A celebration of life will be held for friends and family unable to attend the memorial at a date TBD.
