Janet Ball Simmons' Obituary
Janet Ball Simmons passed away on May 15, 2024. She was born on April 13 in DuBois, PA to Murray Joseph and Ruth Phillips Ball.
Janet’s spirit now reunites with her parents; brother, Murray David Ball; sister, Patricia Ball Shaffer; and granddaughter, Janet Elizabeth Adkinson, all awaiting her in Heaven.
Janet was married to Gary Sycalik and had three children together Brenda Sycalik Adkinson, Daniel James Sycalik, and Colleen Sycalik Kremonas Janet’s life was marked by resilience and adventure. After her divorce, she embarked on a successful career as a real estate agent. Amidst her single life, she had the privilege of attending an unforgettable Elvis Presley concert—a memory etched in her heart forever.
Love blossomed anew when she married George Hudson Simmons who had three children
Pamala, Joy and Jeffrey. Janet and George together explored the world, creating lasting memories. Their journey took them to Hawaii, where they visited the Leper colony on Molokai, swam with dolphins, and witnessed the breathtaking sunrise at Haleakala. They toured and explored various national parks across the Western United States. They also cheered the REDSKINS at two Super Bowls.
Janet and George witnessed a space shuttle launch at Cape Kennedy. They were able to take part in tearing down the Berlin Wall and were the first set of tourists to cross the wall into East Berlin without leaving their passports with an authority at the wall. Their partnership extended beyond travel; they co-owned 2.5 video stores and then owned the Antique Station in Frederick for two decades.
Yet, amidst all these adventures, in Janet’s own words she said “The biggest joy of my life has been my grandchildren and great grandchildren. I cannot express in words how they have given me so much happiness and love.”
A celebration of her life will take place from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701.
Janet Ball Simmons is a beautiful, loving energy that is loved by family and friends who will be very much missed for many lifetimes.
