James Perry Thompson, Jr. (Jimmy), 69 of Frederick, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at his home. Born on March 29, 1946 to the late James Perry Thompson, Sr. and Margaret Estelle (Giles) Thompson in Bethesda, Md. He is preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher I. Winters of Frederick, Md. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley E. Thompson at home; son James P. Thompson, III of Michigan; daughter, Michelle L. Thompson-Lively at home; daughter, Kimberly D. Winters and husband, Michael of Martinsburg, WV; son, Thomas J. Thompson at home; daughter, Tammy A. Thompson of Georgia; five additional children whom he raised as his own with Shirley - Patricia, Jesse, Lenora, Lorraine, and Regina; brother, William G. Thompson at home; sister, Margaret L. (Thompson) Franklin and husband Duke of Berkeley Springs, WV; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jimmy was a graduate of Damascus High School. During his youth, he resided in several locations including Frederick, Md., Gaithersburg, Md., Riverside and Carona, Ca. He married Shirley and built his 1st home in Adamstown in 1975. There he and Shirley raised their family until finding his mountain top paradise in Frederick in 1997. Drafted in 1966, in support of military operations in Vietnam, SPC Thompson served with The United States Army until honorably separating in 1968. During this time, he served as an Amphibian Operator with the 347th Transportation Co. patrolling the waters of Vietnam, earning The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device. After returning home, Jimmy began his career at Montgomery County Public Schools in the mail room and worked his way up to the print shop where he served as Printing Equipment Operator III. During his time at MCPS, Jimmy ran large press operations and was familiar with working anywhere in the shop as needed such as the bindery, where he ran folders, cutters and helped with the saddle-stitcher. He was dedicated to the print shop operations as well as MCPS. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with MCPS and held his coworkers and friends there in high regard. He retired in 2010 with 44 years of service. In retirement he enjoyed visiting with family, telling jokes, fishing and taking walks in the woods. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 12, from 4-6pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick, Md. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 13 at the funeral home commencing at 11AM. Interment will be immediately following the service at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick Md. Stauffer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
