Mr. James Dorsey King's Obituary
Mr. James Dorsey “J.D.” King, 85, of Frederick, passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2023. He was the loving husband of Doris Jean King, his wife of nearly 51 years.
Born January 22, 1938, in Frederick County, Jimmy was the son of the late Dorsey Edwin and Ruth Rebecca (Keeney) King. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1956 and worked for many years as a truck driver. With his wife he owned and operated a trucking company, King Transportation. J.D. was well-known as an excellent guitarist and banjo player. He played in local bands and played music with his siblings. His own well-known band was called Countri Green. J.D. was also an avid reader of math and science textbooks, enjoyed studying Dinosaurs and Astronomy and had many other interests through his life such as writing and drawing.
In addition to his loving wife, Mr. King is survived by two children, Tammy Vredenburg & husband Arthur, and Michael King; siblings Thomas King & wife Jane of Keymar, Marlin King of Frederick, Lois King of Connecticut, and Elinor DeWire of Connecticut; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his siblings Carlton King, June Conway, and Larry King.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12th from 6 – 8 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home & Community Center, 9501 B Catoctin Mountain Hwy. in Frederick, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 13th. Floral tributes are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Frederick Health Hospice, 1 Frederick Health Way, Frederick, MD 21701.
