James "Curtis" Carter's Obituary
James "Curtis" Carter, 81 years old of Dickerson, MD, was born on January 24, 1944 and passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025. He was born to the late Martin S. Carter and Catherine L. Carter Monroe. He was married to his loving wife Mrs. Barbara Carter for 51 years. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Carter, is the proud father of Melody Morissette (Paul), James Carter II (Jeffry), Cheri Jones (Leroy); proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Todd Castle (Michelle Caudle), Jenna Tewey (Forrest), Jacob Jones, Ashleigh Jones, Joseph Morissette (Mara); three great grandchildren Kennedy, Karsyn, Scarlett; and several nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany (Rank SP5) and was honorably discharged on June 26, 1972. He worked for Kern Distributing Co. as a truck driver, John A. Quinn as a plumber, delivered the Washington Star newspaper, and worked as a Comsat/Lockheed Martin Operating Engineer and retired after 34 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Brenda S. Carter, siblings Martin "Butch" Carter, Marie Vining, Harrison Barnhouse, Virgil Barnhouse, William "Bill" Owens, Charlotte Carter, sister-in-law Helen Owens, best friend Larue Johnson and grandson Ryan H. Castle.
He enjoyed hunting, going fishing with his family, and going to auctions. He was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan even when they were not playing well, also a Baltimore Colts and Baltimore Orioles fan. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and going to some of the local races with his son and sometimes with the family. He would take his 1966 Pontiac GTO to car shows and enjoy talking to other people about his car and about theirs'.
He was a very good handyman, could build or do anything. There was no job that he couldn't handle.
A gathering of family and friends will take place in the Catoctin Chapel at Resthaven on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 11:30 am until 12:00 pm with the memorial service beginning at 12:00 pm. A reception of food and fellowship will follow the memorial service from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Monocacy Room at Resthaven.
