Irene Brooks Frank's Obituary
Irene Brooks Frank, 96, passed away in Bethesda, Maryland on February 7, 2023.
Rene was born February 22, 1926 in Decatur, Indiana to Mary Smilack Brooks and Samuel Brooks. While growing up in Decatur, Rene helped with the family business Brooks Clothing stores, played the glockenspiel in her high school marching band and took flying lessons. She enjoyed dancing and music, especially the song That’s Amore, written by her half-brother Jack Brooks.
Rene attended Shimer College, then Indiana University where she met Jack Frank, the love of her life.
After their marriage in 1946 and university graduation, Rene and Jack moved to South Bend, IN where they built a home, raised four children, and ran a tax consulting business in Buchanan, MI. After retirement, Rene and Jack spent their winters in Leesburg, FL.
Rene touched many lives through her generosity and is well known for her love and support of family, friends, and neighbors. Many remember Rene’s neighborhood leadership, cakes for special occasions, and plentiful food for all, notably her French toast. Rene worked as a substitute teacher and community volunteer and was an active member of Sinai Synagogue and later joined Temple Bethel.
Rene is survived by her four children: Sandy Frank (Louis Eason), Shari Frank (Gene Elias), Steve Frank (Linda), and Phil Frank (Vivian Schiller). Grandchildren: Danny Frank, Megan Walton, and Joci Ickes, Elizabeth Frank, Jared Frank, Kimberly Eason-Washington, Louis Eason, Jr. and Karon Bridges, and a host of great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rene was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack, her parents, and her brother Barney.
