Obituary
Helen Marie Shorb, 87, of Thurmont passed away on Tuesday, June 28th. She was the loving wife of the late John J. Shorb, Sr. for 60 years. Born on September 18, 1928 to the late George Grable and Clara Kaufmann. Helen was the last remaining of 10 children. She worked for the Thurmont Shoe Factory for 32 years and then Mountain Gate Restaurant for 8 years baking pies. In her spare time, she loved going to yard sales with her sister Hazel by her side as well as having her own yard sales. She was a member of the Catoctin United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughters; Pat Hausler and husband Richard, Rose Cauthen and husband Robert, and Barbara Shilling and husband Branden. Sons; John Shorb, Jr., Larry Shorb and wife Joann, Eugene Shorb and wife Ann, and Bryan Shorb and wife Nina. 12 grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by Sisters; Hazel Grable and Dot Ketterman. Brothers; Raymond, Charles, Clarence, Leroy, Bruce, Willie, and Merle Grable. And daughter-in-law; Julie Chiappetta. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30th from 430-9 PM at the Historical Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick. Where a funeral service will be held on Friday, July 1st at 2 PM with Pastor Terry Orrence officiating. A foot procession will follow for interment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catoctin United Methodist Church, 7009 Kellys Store Rd, Thurmont, MD 21788.
