Mrs. Helen T. Garrett, 90, of Frederick, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the wife of the late Roy " Jimmie" Earl Garrett, who predeceased her June 10, 2012. They were married for 66 years. Born January 23, 1926 in Duluth, MN, she was the daughter of the late Clive and Ina (Marsh) Travis. Helen retired from the Montgomery County Board of Education. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, making jewelry and being a member of the Red Hat Society. She is survived by five children, Cynthia Hines and husband, Ed, of Rockville; Carol Garrett Hinds of Frederick; Dalton Garrett and wife, Kathy, of Shallotte, NC; Janet Boland and husband, Matt, of Thousand Oaks, CA; and Brenda Barger and husband, Jeff, of Damascus; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Milton Travis of Minnesota; and four sisters, Marjorie Willow of Texas, Eleanor Ross of California, Beverly Young of Minnesota, and Patricia Catkins of Illinois. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29 from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Randy Reid officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
