Mr. Harry Payne, 96, of Knoxville, MD, died Wednesday April 22, 2015 at Broadmore Assisted Living and Nursing Home of Hagerstown MD. He was the husband of Irene T. Payne, his wife of 67 years. Born on March 11, 1919 in Frostburg, MD. He was the son of the late Thomas Payne and Violet Cook. Harry was the owner and Pharmacist of Payne's Pharmacy in downtown Brunswick, MD, for over thirty years. He worked at Mercer's Pharmacy in Frederick, MD, before coming to work at Fribush Pharmacy in Brunswick in 1954. He soon bought the business and renamed it, "Payne's Pharmacy". The drug store remained open until Harry retired in 1984. He was a veteran of WWII having served as a member of the U.S. Army Eighth Air Force 303rd Bomb Group that was based in England. He was a Co-Pilot of a B-17 bomber that flew missions over Europe. After his discharge from the Air Corps, he attended Frostburg State University and then went on to graduate from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 1950. He married Irene in 1948 and after several years and the birth of two children they settled in Knoxville, MD, where they have remained in the same house for 57 years. In his younger years Harry was an avid hunter with his dog Jet and fly fisherman. He and Irene enjoyed traveling by plane and car to many parts of the U.S. and Canada. Often their young son and daughter went with them on camping and fishing trips throughout New England and Canada.Harry's love for flying developed during his military service spurring him to buy his first airplane, a Piper-Cub, and later a Piper-Comanche 250 single engine airplane. Flying became his other life. Harry enjoyed the friends he made at the airport in Frederick. Charlie Johnson and wife Fannie became devoted friends. He also enjoyed visits with family, travel, driving his car and flying his plane. Harry was a member of the Brunswick Moose Lodge #1136 and the American Legion Post #96. He was of the Christian Faith and was baptized at the Methodist Church in Frostburg, MD.He is survived by his wife Irene, a son Dr. Harry E. Payne and wife Ruth, a daughter Judith Powers and husband John, grandchildren Thomas Payne, Steven Payne and wife Jessie, Russell Fry and Daniel Fry. Step grandchildren Wendy Powers Oshiki and husband Tim, Caren Powers Sterns and husband Franklin. Great grandchildren Brandon Fry, Trentin Fry, Colleen Oshiki, Patrick Oshiki and Sean Oshiki. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home. A celebration of Harry's life will be announced at a later date. Professional services have been provided by the John T.
