Mrs. Harriet Fishman, 89, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 in Walkersville, MD. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Irwin Fishman. Born January 1, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Bluma Tepper. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edythe Fried of Frederick, MD and Grace Reichel of Vista, California. Mrs. Fishman grew up in Brooklyn, New York and met her husband at a Catskill Mountain summer camp resort. She and her husband made a home in Brooklyn, then later in Long Island before relocating to Maryland. She raised her three children in Rockville, MD where they lived for over 20 years before moving to Frederick, MD where she lived until 2008. Since that time, she had been living with her daughter and family in Damascus, MD. Mrs. Fishman enjoyed reading, spending time with friends, playing mah jongg, cooking, and baking. She was an active member of the Beth Shalom synagogue and their social club. She supported several social causes, including Hadassah. Earlier in life, she participated in home front efforts such as visiting recovering World War II soldiers and helping to plant victory gardens. She also held several jobs in New York and Maryland. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed nothing more than caring for her husband and three children. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Fishman is survived by her three children: her son Larry and wife Lynn of Derwood, MD and their children Eric and Michelle, her son Robert and wife Tina of Frederick, MD and their children Melissa, Jeremy, Barry, Kristyne, and Myriam, and her daughter Janet and husband Ronald of Damascus, MD and their children Joseph, Jonathan, and Joshua. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Aiden, Jordan, Zachary, Jacob, Asher, and Violet. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Clementyne. Graveside services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday June 1st at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Route 15 North in Frederick, MD with Rabbi Howard Gorin officiating.
